Convergence, portability hot technological trends at 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show
The annual 2012 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) opens its doors to more than 150,000 attendees in Las Vegas this Tuesday.
This annual technology Mecca, much like a fashion show, will preview the newest and greatest gizmos and trends from giant TVs to HD movie-shooting wearable cameras and of course, all things Internet.
From giants like Samsung, YouTube and Mercedes-Benz, to single small booths from Asia, some 3,000 exhibitors will show off new ways to live, work and play.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer bows out of electronics show
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer struck a familiar chord in his swan song at the International Consumer Electronics Show.
Much of the 70-minute presentation revolved around Microsoft's work on software that Ballmer has been promising will make the company a bigger factor in the increasingly important market for smartphones and computer tablets. Microsoft Corp. hopes to make its biggest breakthrough with Windows 8, the next version of its dominant computer operating system due out later this year.
As expected, Ballmer didn't announce a specific date for Windows 8's mass-market release. Most analysts expect the system to hit the market in the late summer or early autumn.

Motorola CEO pledges to use Intel chips in smartphones; fulfills long-held goal for chipmaker
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Motorola Mobility and Lenovo said they will use Intel processors in smartphones and other devices, giving the chipmaker its first entry into a market it has long coveted.
Intel Corp. has struggled to bring down the power consumption of its chips so that they can be used in phones without draining the battery in a matter of hours. Meanwhile, phone-style chips from other manufacturers are starting to encroach on Intel's PC chips, by becoming the chips of choice for tablet computers.
