Voter Turnout
Steady streams of people making their way to the various polling stations in small towns throughout the Southern Ontario riding of Simcoe-Grey.
Many having to make up their minds - not just based on party politics - but the individuals running as well. Incumbent Helena Guergis taking on Dr. Kellie Leitch and a number of other candidates.
The electorate here though is certainly engaged. During the record advance poll numbers this time around, this area had the third highest turnout in all of Canada with 14,985 voting. -

Key Riding
Simcoe Grey is poised to be one of the ridings that could make or break a Conservative majority when the final results come in tonight.
Current MP Helena Guergis is running as an Independent after being ousted from the party last year. She's up against hand-picked Conservative candidate Dr. Kellie Leitch. Both claim to be running based on similar platforms. Only one within the party lines though. -

Helena Guergis Background
Simcoe Grey MP and Independent candidate Helena Guergis first won her seat in the 2004 election - beating Liberal incumbent Paul Bonwick by just 100 votes. She's won the last couple of elections with much greater margins.
She was ousted from Conservative Party caucus after criminal allegations surfaced more than a year ago. She and her husband, former MP Rahim Jaffar, were accused of being involved in fraud, extortion, cocaine use and prostitution.
Guergis held a tearful press conference a couple of weeks ago after being cleared by the RCMP. At the time, she called everything that has happened a smear campaign orchestrated by the PMO. -

Kellie Leitch Background
Dr. Kellie Leitch is a political newcomer, brought in to run for the Conservatives just a few weeks before the election was called. The paediatric surgeon from Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto owns property in Simcoe Grey just outside Creemore and runs a clinic in Orillia. She's also an Order of Ontario recipient.
She claims to have run a positive campaign based on the party message and has recently received a number of high profile endorsements from MP's Peter MacKay and Julian Fantino.
