Duceppe lays low as Bloc results tallied
As election results for the province of Quebec are announced, Gilles Duceppe is staying away from his party's headquarters at the Telus Theatre in downtown Montreal.
Officials say it may be as late as midnight before the longtime party leader appears.

Stephen Harper's Conservatives are now in majority territory.
They're elected or leading in 161 seats--they need to be elected in 155 to get the majority they've been pushing for all campaign. Meanwhile, the NDP are on the cusp of a historic breakthrough. They've been declared the official opposition with results showing them elected or leading in 104 ridings.
The Liberals however are being pummelled at the polls. They're currently elected or leading in 33 ridings and leader Michael Ignatieff is second in his Toronto riding. -

Election results signal Liberal demise
Canada’s self-proclaimed natural ruling party is not even the country’s official opposition, marking a dismal milestone in the Liberal party history.
Since Confederation, the Liberals have always held one of two spots in the House of Commons, the government or the official opposition.
By the time the polls closed at 10 p.m. ET, it was clear that Canada was going to have a Conservative government and, for the first time in history, the NDP as the official opposition.

Ignatieff: Bleak future for leader
Michael Ignatieff is Harvard-educated, an expert in human rights and democracy and an accomplished writer, but on May 2 he was the man who led the Liberal party into third spot, a historic low.
Ignatieff pledged that he would stay on as leader as long as his party would have him on Sunday, but admitted his fate was in the hands of democratic institutions, both the Liberal party and the Canadian electorate.

Huge players risk losing own ridings - including Ignatieff, Duceppe
Giant political names are tottering on the edge of defeat tonight - including two party leaders, Michael Ignatieff and Gilles Duceppe.
The leaders of the Liberal party and the Bloc Quebecois are in danger of losing their seats.
